چکیده

Suspended particle transport is frequently involved in many geophysical processes and subsurface engineering applications. Although common important, the effect of liquid cohesion on clogging has been overlooked previous studies. We conduct visualized experiments dilute suspension flow a rough fracture find dramatic enhancement by tiny amount additional immiscible wetting liquid, even at weight percentage ω ≤ 0.5%. An experimental phase diagram patterns obtained space secondary content rate. The combined composition hydrodynamic condition behavior analyzed to explain transitions regimes. A theoretical model agglomerate size proposed quantify capillary effect. This work improves understanding fines migration particle-clogging behaviors paves way for possibility controlling various

Particle Clogging in Radial Flow: Microscale Mechanisms

Fluid-flow-driven particle migration through porous networks reflects the interplay between various particle-level forces, the relative size between migrating particles and pore constrictions, and the spatial variability of the velocity field. Experimental evidence shows that particle migration in radial fluid flow results in selfstabilizing annular clogging patterns when the particle size appr...

Hydrodynamic aspects of particle clogging in porous media.

Data from 6 filtration studies, representing 43 experiments, are analyzed with a simplified version of the single-parameter O'Melia and Ali clogging model. The model parameter displays a systematic dependence on fluid velocity, which was an independent variable in each study. A cake filtration model also explains the data from one filtration study by varying a single, velocity-dependent paramet...

Comparison of Fine Particle Clogging in Soil and Geotextile Filters

This paper addresses the differences in the extent of clogging associated with fine particle transport in soils and geotextiles. A common experimental set-up was designed for soil and geotextile filtration. Tests were conducted using a nonwoven, needle-punched geotextile filter sample permeated with fine particle suspensions under constant flow rate. The results were compared with those from si...

Relative Permeability Measurement in Rock Fractures

The petroleum industry always requires precise measurement of relative permeability. When it comes to the fractures, the measurement becomes extremely difficult since the saturation in the fractures is hard to calculate. In this study, we are aiming to provide a machine learning approach to distinguish voxel-based water and gas in rock fractures based on Computed Tomography. This research is di...

Clogging transition of many-particle systems flowing through bottlenecks

When a large set of discrete bodies passes through a bottleneck, the flow may become intermittent due to the development of clogs that obstruct the constriction. Clogging is observed, for instance, in colloidal suspensions, granular materials and crowd swarming, where consequences may be dramatic. Despite its ubiquity, a general framework embracing research in such a wide variety of scenarios i...
